Again, Somaliland Beats all Odds

July 01, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: QORAAL

Recently, a friend asked me as to why I do no longer sing for Somaliland as I had been a known and staunch supporter of Somaliland, who regularly posts articles on the websites but who has not done so lately. That friend of mine sarcastically said “you are an unknown soldier; one who is willing to go the distance for nothing, but I guarantee you that Somaliland will fall and with it you will!;  just look what happened at Kalabaydh and the ugly slaughter there, mark my words!” (more…)

The Differences Between The presidential Candidates: By A Political Observer

June 22, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: POLITICAL ANALYSIS, QORAAL

Our voters have the right to know what separates the President from his adversaries. Today I want to give you the difference in the personal traits or temperament of the three candidates. The two opposition presidential candidates have a lot in common; but the President has nothing in common with them. Where I consider the President as a moderate, they are on the extreme side of things. Where the President goes on the middle of the road; they go on side of the road. The President likes to meet his adversaries halfway; they like to meet him on their side. I see the government’s performance for the last six years as a success story; they see it as a sad story. My Gentle Coolness And sensibility Overruled My Revulsion When I Voted Last Night On Somaliland Presidential Election

June 15, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: POLITICAL ANALYSIS, QORAAL

It was 26 of June 2010 and the time was about eleven o’clock when I left my home in Degmo Laqas City with the intention of casting my vote. After long consultations with myself, I had made up my mind a night before the voting day and I knew who would get my vote based on Awdal’s state of political affairs. To decide who to vote for was simple and it seemed pretty easy at beginning, but to go through with it wasn’t so easy and here is what happened that day. (more…)

The Borama Dilla Amoud Road Project – By Dr. Suleiman Walhad

June 02, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: QORAAL

Some twenty years ago, we proposed the idea of establishing a local university in Awdal region, at a time when such thinking of such a project, let alone proposing it, was seen as some kind of lunacy. Overtime, we were able to build on the idea and turned the concept into a practical reality some 14 years ago, when we established Amoud University as the first community owned university in the world. Somaliland: Political Inaction Over Corporate Tax Dodgers – Ahmed Kheyre

May 20, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: QORAAL

The rallying cry in the American war of independence was “No Taxation without representation”, in Somaliland, there is representation but for some there is no taxation. This has to change. For Somaliland to succeed and become a more viable entity its major companies, such as Total, Telesom, Somtel, Dahabshiil, Qarannexpress, Marwel, Indhadheero, Libax and many others have to pay their fair share of taxes and reinvest in the country. Somaliland has yet to receive de-jure recognition; therefore it has to be self-sufficient and self-reliant. (more…)

MOTHER (THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE)

MOTHER (THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE)

MOTHER (THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE)

And the paradise is under the feet of your mothers. – Prophet Muhammad (saw)

Islam has greatly emphasized the issue of loving and respecting the parents, the father and the mother. In our infancy and childhood, we needed the protection, love and nurturing of the parents; but when they become old, they need us to protect them and take care of them.

“Your Lord has commanded that you shall not worship (anyone) but Him and to be good to the parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) ‘Ugh’ nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. And lower for them ‘the wings of humility’ out of mercy; and pray; ‘O my Lord! Have mercy on them as they brought me up (when I was) little.’” (17:23-24) (more…)

Africa Needs a New Map: Time to Redraw Africa’s Borders PDF Print E-mail

It’s time to start seeing the redrawing of the continent’s colonial borders as an opportunity, not a threat.

Muammar al-Qaddafi isn’t exactly known for brilliant ideas on maximizing political justice; his own country, Libya, is essentially his private fiefdom. But a few weeks ago, he had a pretty good one: to partition Nigeria, “the giant of Africa,” as he called it, in half. Religious violence along the border between the country’s north and south seemed to have drawn a pretty clear battle line; Nigeria’s massive and massively diverse population seemed to warrant separate states. After years of watching this oil-rich country of 150 million struggle to manage its obvious divides, Qaddafi just gave voice to what others must have been thinking: Time to split Nigeria up. (more…)

Parents Are The Primary Educators – By Liban Obsiye

April 22, 2010 By: Idhanka Category: QORAAL

Primary and secondary school education in the United Kingdom are mandatory and both are free for all students. All students between the ages of four and sixteen are by law obliged to attend both of these at different stages in their lives depending on their age. Educational success is theoretically determined by nothing other than a student’s age and ability to learn. Before the Education Act 1944 education for those without status and title was limited to the learning of the basic skills they required to carry out their pre determined roles in society. (more…)
