Recently, a friend asked me as to why I do no longer sing for Somaliland as I had been a known and staunch supporter of Somaliland, who regularly posts articles on the websites but who has not done so lately. Our voters have the right to know what separates the President from his adversaries. Today I want to give you the difference in the personal traits or temperament of the three candidates. The two opposition presidential candidates have a lot in common; but the President has nothing in common with them. Where I consider the President as a moderate, they are on the extreme side of things. Where the President goes on the middle of the road; they go on side of the road. The President likes to meet his adversaries halfway; they like to meet him on their side. I see the government’s performance for the last six years as a success story; they see it as a sad story. It was 26 of June 2010 and the time was about eleven o’clock when I left my home in Degmo Laqas City with the intention of casting my vote. After long consultations with myself, I had made up my mind a night before the voting day and I knew who would get my vote based on Awdal’s state of political affairs. Some twenty years ago, we proposed the idea of establishing a local university in Awdal region, at a time when such thinking of such a project, let alone proposing it, was seen as some kind of lunacy. Overtime, we were able to build on the idea and turned the concept into a practical reality some 14 years ago, when we established Amoud University as the first community owned university in the world. The rallying cry in the American war of independence was “No Taxation without representation”, in Somaliland, there is representation but for some there is no taxation. This has to change. For Somaliland to succeed and become a more viable entity its major companies, such as Total, Telesom, Somtel, Dahabshiil, Qarannexpress, Marwel, Indhadheero, Libax and many others have to pay their fair share of taxes and reinvest in the country. Somaliland has yet to receive de-jure recognition; therefore it has to be self-sufficient and self-reliant. (more…)

“Your Lord has commanded that you shall not worship (anyone) but Him and to be good to the parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) ‘Ugh’ nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. It’s time to start seeing the redrawing of the continent’s colonial borders as an opportunity, not a threat.Muammar al-Qaddafi isn’t exactly known for brilliant ideas on maximizing political justice; his own country, Libya, is essentially his private fiefdom. But a few weeks ago, he had a pretty good one: to partition Nigeria, “the giant of Africa,” as he called it, in half. Religious violence along the border between the country’s north and south seemed to have drawn a pretty clear battle line; Nigeria’s massive and massively diverse population seemed to warrant separate states. After years of watching this oil-rich country of 150 million struggle to manage its obvious divides, Qaddafi just gave voice to what others must have been thinking: Time to split Nigeria up. Is Somaliland Justice System Fair To All Its Citizens?
On 16th April 2010, the Sahil Regional Criminal Court in Mandheera Somaliland sentenced to death three individuals including the former Security Chief of Sool Region. One of the men sentenced to death is at large and three others received various jail terms ranging from 1 year to 15 years of hard labour. These individuals were accused of planning and carrying out several explosive attacks, which shook the regional capital of Sool Laascaanood earlier this year. According to the Court’s spokesman, they were also charged and convicted beyond reasonable doubt, the assassination of the Commander of the 12th Brigade of the Somaliland National Army based in Sool Region. It was my childhood when a fetid air was blowing on us day and night, since we were living nearby the former abattoir (Alnafaqo) and all the neighboring to that slaughterhouse lives within this bad odor until they adapted and became senseless to the putrid smell coming from the animal offal, but any stranger comes near to that area can’t resist to stay loner time.
