Marka hore waxaan salaamayaa umada xorta ah ee xalaasha ah ee reer Somaliland. Kuwaas oo abtirsiinta qudha ee ay maanta u baahan yihiin tahay iyaga oo ku abtirsada Qaranka Somaliland, laakiin aan u baahneyn in ay beelo iyo xaafado isku qeybiyaan sida Odey Siilaanyo iyo Xisbigiisu ay rabaan, si loogu codeeyo tolaayeey yaa xaafadayda aheey.
Marka xigana waxa aan salaamayaa saxaafada Somaliland inta aan ka shaqeyn qeybinta umada Somaliland, xilka qaranka ay u hayaana u gudta sida ugu haboon ee dalka iyo dadkaba wax tari karta. Bacda salaam waxa aan u soo jeediniyaa dhamaan umada Somaliland in ay Illaashadaan Nabad Gelyadooda oo cid kasta dani ugu jirto iyo in ay dhowraan midnimada, Qaranimada iyo walaaltinimada umada Somaliland. Sidaas baa kuligeenba dani ugu jirtaa. Ninkii Illaahay u qoray ayuun baa heli doona doorashada inagu soo fool leh ee mudo saacada ah gudahood loo dareeri doono.
Hadaan u soo dhaadhaco dulucda qormadan yar ee gaaban iyo sababta igu kaliftay oo daba socota labada wasiir ee xilkii ay qaranka iyo umada u hayeen ka doorbiday, gacan haadin beelaysan. Qarankii ay u dhaarteen iyo weliba sida qaawan ee markiiba ay ugu biireen Ururka Kulmiye oo aan la odhan karin waa Xisbi Qaran. Ayaandara kale ee jirtaa waxay tahay, marka aad deristo habka uu ku doonayo Kursiga ugu mudan Qaranka Somaliland Musharaxa Ururka Kulmiye (waa Siilaanyo), oo hab beeleedkii aan ka soo guuray dib inoogu celinaysa. Waxa gef weyn ku ah umada Somaliland, in Xisbi loo aqoonsaday in uu yahay 3da Xisbi Qaran ee ku soo baxay doorashadii dawlada hoose ee hore, in uu maanta u xuubsiibto Ururnimo ku salaysan reerka uu ka soo jeedo Siilaanyo, taas oo casilaad Xisbiga u keenaysa. Waxaanay taasi ku kalifidoontaa Kulmiye in dad badan oo u haystay in ay mabda iskugu yimaadeen dadka ay ku wada jireen Xisbigii Kulmiye ee u saqiirey Urur Beeleedka. Urur Beeleednimada aan laba qarsanaynin oo si cad rag badan oo weligood isku mabda aan noqonin, iskugu yimaadaan Ururka Kulmiye dhamaantood, iyaga oo waxa qudha ee ka dhexeeyaana yahay Beesha ay ka soo wada jeedaan.
Inta aydaan ka boodin runta ay qormadani taabatay waxa aad isweydiisaan mabda ay iskugu iman karaan Siilaanyo, Saleebaan Gaal, Buur Madoow, Muj. Maxamed Kaahin, Labadii wasiir ee iscasilay dhawaan, iyo qaar kaloo badan muxuu yahay, oon ka ahayn Beesha ay dhamaantood ka soo wada jeedaan? Goorma ayey Saleebaan Gaal iyo Siilaanyo isku mabda noqdeen? Miyaanu Saleebaan Gaal ahayn ninkii doorashadii hore ku dhaarsanaa in aanu Siilaanyo soo bixin? Ka hor shirkii beesha ee Gar-Adag, raga aan kor ku soo sheegay iyo qaar kale oo badanba waa la ogaa sidii ay u kala fogaayeen, laakiin hada la’ogaayoo reerka waa xiligiisiiye, nin reerka ah oo ka horyimaadaana yaanu jirin baa go’aankii shirkaasi ka soo baxay noqday, sida inoo muuqata hada. Su’aasha aan rabo in aan weydiiyo umada Somaliland waxay tahay, ma go’aan aanan ogeyn baa jira, oo wareegto beelaysan Kursiga ugu mudan Qaranka Somaliland in aan ku qaybsano aan isla meeldhignay? Hadii taasi dhab tahay, beesha doorka danbe u lihi waa ayo, aan iska dhaafno doorashada iyo wareerkeeda oo u hibayno hadaba? Maxaa dadka been loogu sheegayaa, oo loo lee yahay Somaliland waxay qaadatay mabda odhanaya “Qof Kasta Oo Muwaadin Ahi Wuxuu Xaq U Leeyahay In La Doorto Oo Isna Wax Doorankaro”?
Waxa hubaal ah in aaanay jirin meel lagu heshiiyey in Kursigu yahay meerto ama wareegto. Maalinba Xaafad ka mid ah beelaha Somaliland ay Qaban Doonto Madaxweynenimada Somaliland. Laakiin sida aan anigu u fahmay tahay, markii Marxuun Cigaal uu sameeyey sharciga odhanaya 3 Xisbi Qaran wax ka badan Qaranka Somaliland ma qaadi karo, in macnaha ka danbeeyaa ahaa in Qabiiladu kala galaan 3da Xisbi Qaran. Taas oo macnaheedu yahay, intii isku mabda ahiba ha gasho Xisbiga ay mabda’iisa Siyaasadeed u arkaan in ay isku afkaar yihiin. Iyada oo aan loo eegayn, waa ayo qofka uga ordaya Xisbigan Madaxweyne nimada. Waayo hadii aan arintu sidaa ahayn, doorashadii hore Mudane Madaxweyne Riyaale kuma soo baxeen oo waxa ka helilahaa labada nin ee kale oo ka soo jeeda beesha dhexe ee Somaliland. Markaa hadii Qabiil aan wax ku dooranayno, waxa hubaal ah in uu Feysal noqon lahaa madaxweynaha Somaliland maanta. Hadii hadaba qabiil wax lagu dooranaya, waa ninka ugu dhow kursiga. Laakiin waxa aan isku raacnay, kii aan moodayno danta dalka iyo dadka in uu wado in aan codkeena siino. Waana ta uu ku soo noqonayo Mudane Madaxweyne Riyaale mar kale.
Maxay taasi u dhacday hadii aan isweydiino; jawaabtu waa labada nin ee uu hore uuga soo bediyey, oo wax cusub aan soo bandhigin, marka laga reebo nin markii hore la moodayey in uu yahay hogaamiye xisbi oo hada noqday hogaamiye beeleed, waa Siilaanyo’e. Iyo nin waxa qudha ee uu soo kordhiyey tahay, waxa aan wax ku xukumayaa diinta iyo shareecada Islaamka. Mase ogtihiin in Xisbigiisu la walaal yahay xisbiga Sooshaliiska ee Yurub iyo Iskandaneefiyanka? Shucuurta u taal Xisbigiisa iyo kuwooda hadii aad isbarbardhigtaan, waxaad ogaandoontaa in ay isku mid yihiin. Waxa kale oo aad ogaan doontaa, in diin wax lagu xukumo in aanay shucuurtooda ku jirin. Markaa waxa aan ku qiyaasay uun hadalka Feysal “Nin Daad Qaaday Xunbo Cuskay” iyo wax kasta oo uu ku helli karo Kursiga ugu mudan Qaranka Somaliland in uu odhan doono, hadii uu isleeyahay codbaad ku helikartaa. Markaa nin kolba meesha uu isleeyahay dabaysha xagaagu way u dhacaysaa, malagu aamini karaa Qaranka Somaliland? Waxa la yidhi “Meyd maxaa u danbeeyey, iyo waa kaa la sii sido”. Waad ogeydeen maalintii dhaweyd ee uu Madaxweeynuhu ku tegay Ceerigaabo Diyaarada, Feysal wuxuu ku eedeynayey Madaxweynaha in uu jabiyey sharcigii anshaxa doorashada, laakiin maalintii u danbaysay isu soo baxa doorashada, waxaad wada ogtihiin in uu Feysal Diyaarad Khaasa ku maray meelo badan. Su’aasha aad u baahan tihiin in aad isweydiisaan waxay tahay, Feysal Kee baad u dooranaysaan Madaxweynenimada Somaliland?
Sidaa si la mid ah waxa wanaagsan in aan isweydiino, nin Qarankii Somaliland Qabiilkiisu kala weyn yahay (Waa Siilaanyo’e) ma lagu aamini karaa Qaranka Somaliland? Hore ayaa loo yidhi “Reer Madoorto Madaxweyne, Laakiin Beelaha Isku Tagay Ee Ku Midoobay Somaliland Baa Dooran Kara Madaxweyne”. Waxa uu reerku doortaa ama dooran karaa waa Caaqil, Jiif Caaqil, Suldaan, Ugaas, Garaad iyo Madaxdhaqameed kaliya. Laakiin Qaran dhan ayaa doorta Madaxweyne. Siilaanyo helimaayo haduu u ordo Gudoomiyaha Gobolka Togdheer, iska daa in uu xilka Madaxweynaha Somaliland qabtee. Taariikhda guunka ah ee Siilaanyo dib u raac, waxaanad ogaandoontaa, in uu yahay nin ku qadhaabta shayga Qabiilka layidhaahdo. Min aasaaskii shirkada Dahabshiil iyo xoolihii loo soo ururiyey ururkii SNM ha noqoto, ee uu ku aasaasay shirkadaa hanoqoto. Dhaawacii SNM ee laka xulanayey ha noqoto. Dawladii Cabdiraxmaan Tuur IHUN oo uu qabiil kaga soo horjeestay ha noqoto. Iyo qaar kale oo badan oo aan maqaalkan oo kaliya lagu soo koobi karin.
Waxaan ku soo gunaanadayaa qormadan gaaban; laba isku helimayno hadii aan nahay umada Somaliland, Qabiil iyo Qaran. Hadii Qaranka iyo horumarkiisa ladoonayno waa in aan Mudane Madaxweyne Riyaale ku diidnaa wax qabad, laakiin waa in aynaan ku diidin Qabiil ka uu ka soo jeedo iyo gobolka uu ku dhashay labadaba. Hadii labada nin la sharaxan aan dooranaynana waa in aynaan ku dooran qabiilka ay ka soo jeedaan, laakiin waa in aan isweydiino maxay dalkan u qaban karaan? Hadaba ha iska qiiroonina oo Qabiil wax ha ku dooranine’e isweydiiya, dalkan iyo dantiisa kuma ayey ku jirtaa 3da nin ee codkiina ku tartamaya? Ugu danbayn “Codkiinu Yuu Ciil Idinku Noqon” Aad Ka Qoomamootaan Beri Ka Maalin. Imika ayey gacantiina ku jirtaaye, kala doorta Qabiil iyo Qaranka Somaliland?
Waxaan Illaahay inooga baryayaa in doorashadu ku dhamaato nabad gelyo. Guul baanan u rajeyn dadka iyo dalka Somaliland. Ictiraafkii Illaahay iyo Keeniiba hore ayaan u helay, laakiin kii caalamka inuu doorkan yimaado ayaan inoo rajeynayaa Insha Allaahu Tacaalaa.
This is due the rough road that connects Dilla to Borama which is in pitiable and ravaged state. With the road littered with boulders and pitted with holes, passengers find it hard to conceal their feelings and burst out talking terribly about the road all the way to Borama. It is not uncommon for the travellers to critisize Awdal people for their absolute inaction and silence on this significant issue. Shame on Awdal people!!!!. Others mention the government’s weakness and president’s lack of sentiment to his own region. Shame on him!!. This indeed makes the passengers belonged to Awdal region feel affronted in every trip, starting hot discussions as to which party to vote for. They have to get prepared for the series of questions posed by non-Awdal passengers along with their vulgar remarks.

Also, passengers have to buy plastic-bags from Dilla for fear of throwing up due to the constant jolting and pouncing and the movement of the wheels in a zig-zag course. Another main recurrent complaint of the passengers after they reach their destination is back pain. In his attempt of swerving to avoid large boulders that appear in the narrow, pumpy, and dusty tract, drivers are mostly affected by the back pain along with headache which makes them chew bunches of Qat to help them ignore the pain. Consequently, this leads to accidents that account the lives of a large number of people and properties.

It was a monotonous incident and people became desperate as a result, convincing themselves that it is beyond the realms of possibility to construct proper roads, let alone asphalt roads. They were under the impression that only well-to-do government could construct roads with smooth, safe surfaces. In addition, successive efforts have been made by local NGOs raising money from the businessmen all of which proved fruitless and created mistrust among them. With a despair and frustration overwhelming the community, any prospect of road construction seemed far beyond reach.

Thanks to ASARDA (Awdal Salal Road Development Association) presided by Prof. Hassan Ali Osman for their vast accomplishment. It was established with the sole aim of improving the road conditions of Awdal with the name of ARNA and later Salal region was included modifying the name into ASARDA. The head of this organization, Prof. Hassan is a man with commitment who came all the way from Saudi Arabia to change the gloomy pictures of Awdal/Salal roads. He is dedicated, trustworthy, and above all, the founder of Amoud University.

Following his nomination, he organized a gathering with the community aiming to persuade the Awdal people to contribute and partake this most esteem project, the road construction. The turn-out to this rally was enormous beyond belief with no one having the slightest expectation of how this particular event would be any different from the preceding ones. The speeches delivered at the event was so moving and encouraging that people began to realize the importance of collaboration. Also, the messages conveyed that progress would come from a confluence of efforts, generosity, and responsibility for change which should be started from the grassroots. Its slogan (YES WE CAN) was a morale booster and gave confidence to the community highlighting the strength and determination it requires to progress.

Furthermore, part of ASARDA’s responsibility lies in persuading the general public that advance will not proceed without their cooperation and that road construction, in particular, requires substantially more support and donation from the community. In an effort to make those dreams come true, Prof. Hassan and his organization ASARDA, worked tirelessly knocking every door, holding meetings with the different parts of the community such as students in schools, universities, women associations, companies, etc to raise money. With that being done, the contributions received from the community in the region were tremendous, considering the economic constraints that prevailed in Somaliland. It is also worth mentioning, the recent effort of Somaliland government who contributed a considerable amount of money and vowed to complete the road construction which is already underway.

Undoubtedly, the sheer desperation and doubts expressed by the community over the years have been resolved and the assumptions of inaction have been proved wrong by ASARDA.

Despite those efforts, there are more blunt crticisms coming from a number of Awdallite diaspora who accuse ASARDA for corruption and fund mismanagement. It is disheartening for us, the new generation of this region, to hear such an unpatriotic critisism and remarks. Some argue that there are motives behind this project and would rather construct the road between Borama and Lughaya than Amoud-Borama. Others consider that this project doesn’t reflect the needs of the community with other more important projects were top in the priority list. Without a doubt, Awdal region lacks basic development and the country is destitute, unable to finance pressing public needs.

But a journey of thousand miles starts with a single step, a step which lays the foundation of a progress. The first concrete foot-step into future has been wholeheartedly taken by ASARDA and should be congratulated. Yet, their admirable efforts remains not only unrecognized but criticized as well by many awdallites!! Unfair isn’t it?. We need role models not critics.

However, we, the new generation of Awdal, are fortunate to have a role model, a commited and honest individuals, a group of people who are bold enough to stand up and say it is time for change and genuinely contribute their time and energy. We came to realize that desirable goals are within our reach – only if we can unite behind a broad and commonly understood objectives.

In a nutshell, today’s most pressing domestic challenge is improving Awdal roads, regardless of the starting point. In dealing with this challenge, one of the greatest potential rewards lies in teamwork, accountibility and contribution. Therefore, I urge Awdallite in the diaspora to feel the need to get enthusiastically involved in this imperative project. Unity is of the essence in order for Awdal progress to spark. YES WE CAN

As Somalis, we often praise ourselves as a people of immense talents in manipulating the oral word to suit our needs of the moment. We pride ourselves in having a formidable repertoire of oral literary traditions that, if not on par with; are not less than many written literature of others.

In one of his famous sayings about Somalis, I.M.Lewis said, “Somalis are born talkers. Every elder is expected to be able to hold an audience for hours on end with a speech richly laced by judicious proverbs and quotations from famous poems and sayings.”

From poems, odes, and proverbs to quotes, stories and parables, Somali literature is famed for its mastery of the oral word. Hence debating is the most suitable arena to display such an oral mastery.

So, why not invite the leaders of our three political parties to express and debate the soundness of their policies in a public forum mediated by non-partisan academics and community advocates?

The majority of our politicians often preach from podiums without giving a chance to the people other than their supporters to question the policies they espouse. Each politician; notably those of UCID and KULMIYE often make bombastic claims without letting anyone question or dispute their claims.

The government’s side is worse; they reiterate recycled clichés as new policies on the few occasions they are not blasting an opposition member.

It seems both the opposition and the government have taken the famous “Read My Lips” maxim to the extreme, and are expecting the public to conjure sense out of the non-sense they often blurt in their political campaigns.

Both the opposition and the government are on each others throats most of the time. On the few occasions they are not, they repeat the same empty promises. They often seem to subscribe to the motto: “if you say something loud and long enough many people will believe it”.

To put this “One man show no questions asked” style of political campaigning, we dare both the opposition leaders; Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Silanyo and Faisal Ali Warabe, and President Dahir Riyale Kaahin to face it out in a live debate whether on the radio or the local TV. The people are eager to test their leaders’ mettle and the country is blessed with large numbers of qualified and competent individuals with enough integrity to comprise a non-partisan panel of moderators.

It is about time for the public to demand from their politicians to face each other publicly and defend their stand on many issues before the elections. Somalilanders of all political stripes deserve the right to ask for this. It is about time that they are given the chance to asses the sincerity, sensibility and skills of their leaders.

Paraphrasing one the famous poems of our esteemed poet, Abdillahi Timadde (1920-1973), we might say:

Madaxdaanu la hadlyaynaan lahayn Dux iyo iimaane

Dul iyo hoosba ugu dignoo Waa dix dhagaxeede

Annaguun baa u damqanayne dheguhu Uma daloolaane

Its English translation:

The leaders we are addressing are void of substance and conscience

We warned them openly and confidentially but they are as deaf as stone

The past 48 hours Somalia witnessed a wave of political disasters and strange illegal actions from president Sharif and the quick endorsement and support from SRSG Ould-Abdallah. SRSG endorsing the illegal action, have raised suspicion and destroyed trust within the Transitional Federal Institutions and within the international Community.

Both men have stated that they have done this to end a bickering among the leaders, however due to their actions they have managed to jointly slaughter the very purpose they served, implementing the Djibouti agreement, and guaranteed continuity of the bickering and dispute, the actions of the president where surprising and any conscious person following the Somali process since the formation of the Transitional Governments is aware of the Laws that surround, the appointment of the Prime minister and the sacking of the Prime minister.

In fact this was the very problem that deteriorate the previous TFG governments, and in one afternoon on 17th May 2010 after the Speaker resigned and the issue was done with, I repeat done with, the president had to say the words that would take Somali politics to the graveyard and fuel the alshabaab, that is to claim the power of the parliament as a supreme being, basically the president played god, at a time when following the rule of law was crucial, he said “I have dissolved the government”.
.

Normally presidents asked the ministers allied with them to resign and then they take the matter to the parliament seeking the parliament’s approval. and even those where a drag to progress and peace. President Sharif however chose the wrong advice over the Law, and did a deed which will certify a very expensive error of judgment; on the contrary president Sharif had a moment of vision that afternoon, to forget the process and previous mistakes and land in the political volcano.

the president violated the charter Article 44 and 31 only every other Somali person following Somali politics the past five years is an expert on the issue except the president, whose actions confirms his aloofness to the matter in hand, the president dashed to the sea to get dry, and elevated the problem to a higher level.
.

Why he was not aware of this is the 64 million dollar question? These where the issues that ended previous governments, and all the president said to evoke this matter is “I dissolved the government” no president who said this survived, the political consequences that followed.

SRSG Ould-Abdallah mandated “to promote a lasting peace and stability in Somalia through the implementation of the Djibouti Peace Agreement” have done the opposite this time, he endorsed the illegal action of the president and threatened those who oppose it, and this time those who oppose the president decision have the charter on their side.

SRSG have managed in one-go to oppose the charter and destroy the Djibouti peace process, it seems that the SRSG has personalize the Somali conflict with the assistance of the president Sharif. Both men opened the flood gates to a new political turmoil and erosion of trust to the transitional Federal Institution, also in this action the SRSG and the president have created and widened the Somali Challenges and hindered the peace process, by enormously demoralizing the institution which is a fuel to Al-Shabaab terrorist.

A very expensive mistake by the two most valued pillars of saving Somalia President Sharif and SRSG Ould-Abdallah, what happens next is on their shoulders and their shoulders alone.

When someone develops an infection at a hospital or other patient care facility that they did not have prior to treatment, this is referred to as a healthcare-associated (sometimes hospital-acquired) infection (HAI).

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a global crisis affecting both patients and healthcare workers.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at any point in time, 1.4 million people worldwide suffer from infections acquired in hospitals.

A Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report published in March-April 2007 estimated the number of U.S. deaths from healthcare associated infections in 2002 at 98,987.

The risk of acquiring healthcare-associated infections in developing countries is 2-20 times higher than in developed countries.

Afflicting thousands of patients every year, HAI often leads to lengthening hospitalization, increasing the likelihood of readmission, and adding sizably to the cost of care per patient.

Financially, HAIs represent an estimated annual impact of $6.7 billion to healthcare facilities, but the human cost is even higher.

Until recently, a lack of HAI reporting requirements for healthcare facilities has contributed to less-than-optimal emphasis being placed on eliminating the sources of healthcare associated infections. However, growing public anxiety regarding the issue and resulting legislation on state and local levels demanding accountability is serving to accelerate initiatives to combat HAIs.

About Not on My Watch Prevention Campaign

To protect patients by reducing the risk of HAI, healthcare professionals must continually update their knowledge of infection management.

As part of an ongoing commitment to quality care and infection prevention, nationwide doctors and hospitals are partnering with Kimberly-Clark to deliver continuing education programs on healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention to staff and management. As simple as education sounds, busy doctors and nurses on the front lines of delivering care can find it difficult to find the time to take advantage of scheduled programs within their hospitals.

The HAI Education Program is part of a national infection awareness campaign for healthcare professionals called “Not on My Watch” and will provide the facility with a toolkit that contains informational flyers, patient safety tips and posters.

The “Not on My Watch” campaign provides accredited continuing education (CE) programs based on best practices and guidelines as well as research available on reducing the incidence of healthcare-associated infections.

The author has done every effort to pre-judge and even downplay the outcome of the said conference without having the slightest clue of what the contents (agenda) of the conference will be. Without mentioning names, he tried to rubbish the organizers of the conference before they even put things together. He has further gone to suggest that the organizers of the said conference have evil intentions i.e. to undermine the current leadership of Somaliland who currently facing an election in the summer. The positive thing about our community in Awdal and Salal is that there is a diversity of opinion as far as local politics are concerned, and this is the point the author should keep in mind when campaigning for his party, UDUD. One should not expect the support of Awdal and Salal community to be handed on a plate to the current leadership who has nothing to show for the period they were in office, eight long years.

It is a common knowledge for Awdal diaspora communities all over the world as well as those who live back home that our folks in North America are at the forefront of every endeavor intended to improve the lives of their unfortunate communities back home. There is no better example than the latest state of the art hospital funded and built in Borama by Amoud Foundation, a selfless Awdal Diaspora group based in Texas, USA. Another typical example of projects implemented by Awdal’s Diaspora community based in North America is what is locally known as Iqra projects, a number of primary and junior schools scattered all over Northern and Eastern Awdal as well as Salal which facilitated the provision of free education for thousands of youngsters who would have otherwise ended in the major cities of towns as street beggars. These projects were made possible by the selfless efforts of Iqra group, another Awdal affiliated group based mainly in North America. Amoud University, the beacon of Somaliland, which attracted its students from all over Somalia, let alone Somaliland, was financed largely by Awdal’s Diaspora community, particularly those based in the Arabian Gulf, mainly UAE and Saudi Arabia. Another Diaspora community organization based in Toronto, ARDA, has many surprises for Awdal and Salal in the immediate future.

You have to struggle to remember a single meaningful project funded and implemented by the current leadership of Awdal i.e. Dahir Rayaale and his company. There are, of course, some home-based groups or individuals who tried all they could to help their people, but they are often undermined by the same leadership Mohamed Hassan Matan is trying to portray as the saviors of our community back in Awdal and Salal. The current leadership of Awdal who are also at the helm of Somaliland could not say a word, let alone express their condolence for those butchered and their body mutilated on the Gabiley – Borama road, while they are happy to send their condolence to every single death in Somaliland. Almost all the development projects in Awdal and Salal are both funded and implemented by the Diaspora community, particularly those in North America, or by the local and international NGOs.

We all know that our Awdal leadership is well off financially than they have ever been, despite their community being poorer than they ever have been. Everyone who has the interest of his/her community at heart should be positive about anything that can make meaningful and positive contributions to the development of his/her community. It has always been the case that the saviors of failed or impoverished countries throughout the world come from afar i.e. foreign countries. Countries like Somalia (Somaliland) should be no different. Any contribution that may come from the planned conference in Minneapolis should be viewed as positive.

A community as impoverished as ours should welcome any projects that could improve their lives wherever those live-saving projects may come from. And the fact of the matter is that they all come from Awdal Diaspora in Europe and North America, with the latter always taking the lion’s share; none whatsoever from current leadership in Awdal.

The days of smooth talking (afmiishaarnimo) while emptying the pockets of our poor community have long gone with the last recognized government of Somalia, or so I thought. For those hailed from Awdal and Salal who have nothing to offer to their community, the best thing to do is to keep their loud mouths shut, and let the hardworking members of their community do the talking i.e. do the job. From experience point of view, I know many people who did little in terms of improving the lives of their poverty-stricken community and yet their names are well known for the all the wrong reasons. People like Mohamed Hassan Matan are all talks but no trousers.
