Equity and Diversity Open House

Inclusion is not bringing people into what already exists;
it is making a new space, a better space for everyone.
- George Dei
The Woodroffe Ave. Public School Council invites you to an open house to discuss how to support equity and diversity at our school for the greater benefit of all our students.
DIVERSITY includes, but is not limited to, ancestry, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, physical and intellectual ability, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. We also invite non-traditional families to participate, such as guardians, foster and adoptive parents.
EQUITY: A condition or state of fair, inclusive, and respectful treatment of all people. Equity does not mean treating people the same without regard for individual differences.
In an inclusive school environment, all students should see themselves reflected in their learning, curriculum, physical surroundings and broader environment.
The Woodroffe Ave. Public School Council believes that diversity is our strength, which is why Council has been funding multicultural programming for the last 3 years. That being said, we want to ensure that our school is meeting the needs of children and families and is responding positively to what they bring into the classroom.
The goal of the Open House is to discuss what members of the school community would like from the School Council to support equity and diversity. How can the School Council help remove barriers to inclusion? What ideas can parents share and are they willing to get involved?
Please let us know in advance if there are any barriers for you to attend this Open House that Council could help to address, such as transportation, child care or language.
For more information, contact the Chair of School Council, Katherine Cole, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone at 613-627-5282.
We hope you will join us!
